Who is a Baby Boomer

Baby Boomers have lived in seven Decades, two Centuries, and two Millenniums. Baby Boomers are those persons born between 1946 and 1964.  All Baby Boomers are now at least 50 years of age.  We know what a black and white television is. We remember when there were only three television stations and they all went off the air by midnight.  We know what a rotary telephone is.

As children Baby Boomers road bicycles without a helmet, we drank water from a hose, and we played outside.  You got picked for sports teams because you had talent, not everyone got a chance to bat, and we learned what failure was all about.

We walked to school and back home at the end of the day, or maybe if you lived far enough away a school bus would come by and pick you up.  We had homework that had to be done by the following morning or you received a zero as your grade.  You had one chance to take a test and if you failed the test you failed the test.  If you received enough failing scores you failed that grade and had to do it all over again.  Parent sided with teachers and principles.  Teachers and Principles were able to discipline bad behavior.  And our parents knew that not everyone was meant for college.

You had chores that had to be done prior to playing with your friends or your extra-curricular activities.  Some homes didn’t have a telephone.  If a high school student was fortunate enough to have a car it was usually a used vehicle, and I mean really used.  You had maybe three or four pairs of shoes in your closet, your Sunday best, your school shoes, your gym shoes and your weekend shoes; that’s all you needed.

Baby Boomers remember when the minimum wage was less than $1.00 per hour, and babysitters earned 10¢ to 35¢ per hour.  We also remember when gas was 25¢ a gallon.

Things have changed so much and this is one Baby Boomer way to voice their point of view on the changes…
